چکیده

The Multimodal User Supervised Interface and Intelligent Control (MUSIIC) project is working towards the development of an assistive robotic system which integrates human-computer interaction with reactive planning techniques borrowed from artificial intelligence. The MUSIIC system is intended to operate in an unstructured environment, rather than in a struc-tured workcell, allowing users with physical disabilities considerable freedom and flexibility in terms of control and operating ease. This paper reports on the current status of the MUSIIC project.

Intelligent Service Robotics

This paper describes a hands-off socially assistive therapist robot that monitors, assists, encourages, and socially interacts with post-stroke users engaged in rehabilitation exercises. We investigate the role of the robot's personality in the hands-off therapy process, focusing on the relationship between the level of extroversionintroversion of the robot and the user. We also demonstrate a b...

User-guided reinforcement learning of robot assistive tasks for an intelligent environment

Autonomous robots hold the possibility of performing a variety of assistive tasks in intelligent environments. However, widespread use of robot assistants in these environments requires ease of use by individuals who are generally not skilled robot operators. In this paper we present a method of training robots that bridges the gap between user programming of a robot and autonomous learning of ...

Mobility Assistive Robots for Disabled Patients

2.1 Background Wheelchairs are one of the most important mobility aids for disabled patients and elders. In general, wheelchairs are categorized as manual and powered types. From the viewpoints of movement behaviours, the powered wheelchair can be regarded as a mobile robot (Asai, 2001) if additional environmental sensing components are built and an intelligent motion controller is included. Th...
